Bobcat Company and The Salvation Army are recognizing National Preparedness Month by raising awareness of the importance of emergency readiness at home, at work and across communities. Observed each September, National Preparedness Month encourages individuals and businesses to plan ahead for natural disasters and emergencies to help keep people safe.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. experienced 27 weather and climate disasters in 2024, resulting in more than $182 billion in damages. With September marking the peak of hurricane season, communities face increased risks of flooding, debris damage and power outages, further underscoring the need for readiness.

In support of these efforts, Bobcat is spotlighting the essential equipment that strengthens emergency response and the partnerships that help organizations mobilize quickly.

In 2024, Bobcat supported The Salvation Army—a leading disaster relief organization—by donating 23 critical pieces of equipment valued at $885,000 in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The donation included forklifts, portable generators and light towers, enabling The Salvation Army to respond immediately without the delays and costs associated with renting equipment.

“Partners like Bobcat make it possible for The Salvation Army to respond swiftly and effectively when communities are devastated by disaster,” said Commissioner Merle Heatwole, National Commander of The Salvation Army. “Their generosity ensures we can bring relief and hope to those who need it most.”

With trained personnel and a presence in nearly every U.S. ZIP code, The Salvation Army deploys quickly to provide meals, shelter, emotional care and long-term recovery. Bobcat forklifts help unload supplies and essential goods, while portable generators power mobile kitchens and temporary relief sites during extended outages.

“Bobcat equipment is often at the forefront of helping communities rebuild after natural disasters,” said Mike Ballweber, president of Doosan Bobcat North America, Inc. “Our collaboration with The Salvation Army allows Bobcat and our equipment to make an even greater impact, empowering The Salvation Army to maximize their efforts in doing the most good.”

Essential Equipment for Emergency Response

Portable Generators

Portable generators are vital when power is lost or unavailable. They keep critical operations running—from powering tools and pumps to supporting medical sites and rescue efforts. Bobcat portable generators offer long runtimes, low noise levels and reliable output to support emergency operations, construction and municipal needs.

Portable Light Towers

Light towers ensure safe, 24-hour productivity during disaster response efforts. With extended runtime, 360-degree mast rotation and broad illumination, they allow emergency crews and volunteers to operate safely during night operations or low-visibility conditions.

Preparedness Tips from The Salvation Army

Communities and individuals can take simple steps to be better prepared before disaster strikes:

  • Create an emergency plan: Establish meeting points, communication plans and key contacts. Know local shelters and resources.

  • Assemble an emergency kit: Include water, nonperishable food, flashlights, batteries, first-aid items, gloves, masks, medications and copies of important documents.

  • Learn lifesaving skills: CPR and first-aid training are invaluable in emergencies.

  • Review insurance coverage: Ensure protection against regional hazards.

  • Connect with local response agencies: Learn about community emergency teams and volunteer opportunities.

For many families and businesses, access to the right equipment and support is the first step toward recovery after a disaster. Bobcat remains committed to strengthening response efforts through dependable equipment, disaster-relief partnerships and long-term community support.
