Bobcat Company has partnered with North Dakota’s Gateway to Science (NDGTS) to introduce a new interactive outdoor exhibit designed to inspire young problem solvers. As part of the science center’s new Outdoor Explorium, the exhibit blends hands-on exploration with real engineering concepts—giving visitors an up-close look at how machinery works.

Made possible through Bobcat’s sponsorship and engineering support, the custom-built display features a functional Bobcat excavator arm created by Bobcat employees and interns. Children and families can turn wheels to control the arm, move the boom and bucket, and dig just like an equipment operator. The system includes both manual and power-assisted modes, allowing visitors to explore hydraulics, movement and mechanical design in an engaging, accessible way.

“The Bobcat exhibit brings STEM concepts to life in a way that’s fun, approachable and memorable for our visitors,” said Beth Demke, Chief Executive Officer of North Dakota’s Gateway to Science. “With its custom design and interactive features, visitors can explore how machines work, turning curiosity into discovery. We’re grateful to Bobcat for lending their creativity and expertise to create an experience that will inspire problem-solvers for years to come.”

According to Bobcat lead engineer Mark Binstock, the exhibit reflects Bobcat’s ongoing commitment to STEM education. “The Bobcat excavator exhibit embodies our belief in empowering the next generation of innovators. We are proud to help create an experience where children can ignite their curiosity and engage with engineering principles through hands-on exploration and play.”

The partnership expands Bobcat’s broader investment in education, which includes scholarships, internships, co-op opportunities, Student Development Programs, and STEM grants. These initiatives support students of all ages and help build a pipeline of future engineers, designers and technical professionals.

North Dakota’s Gateway to Science serves as the state’s only hands-on science center, offering exhibits, camps, outreach programs and statewide initiatives that encourage learners to explore STEM concepts. The new Outdoor Explorium continues this mission with exhibits designed to engage children in open-air learning environments that spark imagination and discovery.
